Population: Wolof ethnic group represents 60% of the local population. The fulas 30%, the soces 3%. Other groups, such as the maures, the sereers, the bambaras, the diolas, etc…, are few and far between and are estimated to be about 7% of the population.

Regional Challenges: The community is currently struggling with several different issues which include:
- Deforestation and the rapid decline of vegetation in the area, a lack of rainfall and lower crop yields as a result, a lack of biodiversity, the heightened presence of malaria during the rainy season, the spread of diarrhea in the area, the widespread problem of respiratory infectionsInadequate medical facilities for pregnant mothers, growth of poverty in the region, clash of existing social values with the modern world
Recent Community Initiatives: The local community has organized itself as an ecovillage to confront these issues and to put in to practice the values of a well functioning ecovillage.
Projects include:
Animal rearing, agriculture, the promotion of local artisans, the promotion of the nutritional, health of the villagers, implementation of micro credit projects, meetings that reinforce capacity-building in several sectors of the village
